Why Sustainability Analyst?

Sustainability and ESG revolve around a central question — is this product, business practice, or corporation sustainable? It’s a question that will get repeated in boardrooms, conference rooms, and factory floors. Answering it requires a tool kit, and practice using it across a broad spectrum of assignments. We give you a head start on this key career skill, and it will show when you go to interview for jobs.

Program designers

Weekly cadence

  • Early-week: Watch weekly lecture (on-demand), and ask your coach any questions.

  • Mid-week: Work on real-world project with support and detailed feedback from coach. Attend expert talk or career panel.

  • Weekend: Attend live review session with your coach and squad, share insights and discoveries. Stay for optional Community Hour.

Lecture topics

  • Humans primarily impact the planet through their collective economic activity — aka making products. We explore how product life cycles impact the planet.

  • We cover why products are made the way they are — the principles of “linear” product choices. These include materials and processes that extract resources rather than regenerating them.

  • We cover the spectrum of tools used to inventory and improve product life cycle impact.

  • We cover the “R’s” of circularity (refuse, reuse, recycle…) from regenerative ag to reusable packaging. We then explore how they are applied in real-life product examples.

  • Net zero is about decarbonizing the product life cycle through circular design. We cover the basic components of net zero plans: calculation, renewables, decarbonization initiatives, and offsets/removal technology.

  • We cover the influences that drive corporations to become more sustainable, including consumers, employees and investors. We explore how corporations respond to those influences, their sustainability goals, decision-making process, and their values.

  • We introduce GRI and other reporting standards: their value, use, and challenges.

  • We explore the future of product sustainability by looking at actual venture capital portfolios — the companies VCs fund today represent the technologies of tomorrow.
